For goodness sakes, have you seen some of the children’s playgrounds these days? Everything is built so safe that there is no place for children to explore and take chances. Again, a bunch of people making bizarre decisions because of the selfish few who will sue for anything.
I remember taking my 18 month old grandson to a neighborhood school playground in California. My daughter lived on top of a mountain and there were very few places a grandma and a toddler could go without driving. It was either walk along a road that goes up and down the mountain or mountain trails. However, there was one elementary school a few minutes’ walk from my daughter’s house. This is where I took my grandson every day.
One day, a school administrator approached me and told me that a stranger is not allowed to be on the school grounds. She sheepishly told me it is because of abductions. I explained to her that I am a grandmother visiting her daughter who lives across the street and there really is no other place to go to entertain a toddler. You couldn’t even visit people as there were very few houses. Well . . . we were kicked out of the playground.
I suppose it is hard to blame the school administrator as she was following rules. Ugh... Again, no common sense or rational thought!

i understand not wanting people lurking around your playground during the school day, but this was so ridiculous!! you had a baby with you! despite the grump playground rules, i still think of that house as the most heavenly place I've lived
And so a chance for joy is wrecked by intitutionalised fear of potential harm! That happened to us in Indiana. We used to go swim in ancient stone quarries surrounded by wild vegetation, beautiful and wonderful for diving. indiana U students discovered them and started using them for hazing the freshmen; one of them got hurt. The police shut off the quarries altogether. Yes tops no.
It didn't even matter that you were a teacher!
I guess no one believes anyone anymore, though, anyway.
